The venturi assembly is responsible for cycling water through the entire softener, making this an essential part to maintain. Cleaning the nozzle & venturi annually is an easy way to keep your water softener working at its best. Check out our step-by-step instructions and video below to get started!
Locate Your Serial Number & Model Number
Find the Serial Number on your softener's inside rim, right below the salt lid hinges.

Cleaning the Venturi
1. First, you'll want to remove the softener's top cover:
- On the back of the unit, unhook the two clips that hold the cover onto the tank below (see photo below). Flex/pull the cover out and away from the softener at these clips.
- There are two similar clips holding the front of the cover on as well. Slide the cover towards you to release these clips. Be careful not to disconnect any wires. It's normal for the plastic cover to produce some noise as it shifts and bends.
2. Next, bypass the water softener by pushing in the bypass handle in the back of the unit. This will stop water from flowing in or out of the softener while you work:
3. Locate the nozzle & venturi assembly on the left-hand side of softener's valve head. The venturi has a gray plastic base with a white dome-shaped cap (pictured below).
4. Unscrew the cap and carefully remove all seven internal pieces, leaving just the empty gray housing. Be sure to keep the parts in order.
5. Gently clean the internal parts with warm, soapy water. You can use a small paperclip or pin to clear any dirt or debris from the two black circular flow plugs. You'll also want to pay special attention to the flat black gasket, as this part can degrade over time. If any parts are worn or damaged, click here to purchase replacements.
6. Finally, reassemble the venturi in the order shown below. You'll notice that the black gasket and flow plugs have numbers or letters printed on them – these should face UP when reassembling.
7. You're done! You'll just want to put the softener's top cover on and pull the bypass handle back out.
