This is a general checklist, please review your Owner's Manual for important & specific details.
- When you open your box, make sure you have all parts on the packing list (Bypass Valve & Plumbing Adaptors).
- Identify where you're going to install the system.
- Ensure you have the right materials needed - pipes are the right size and type.
- Plan how you'll install the system (what type of bypass does your home have?).

Below is the general installation process. Please review the Owner's Manual for important and specific details on materials and safety warnings.
1. First, you'll need to turn off the main water supply. Shut off the electric or fuel supply to the water heater and then open high and low faucets in your home to drain all the water from the house pipes.
2. Remove the top cover. You can do this by pulling back on both corners at the bottom of the opening in the back and then lifting the cover up. Feel free to set it on the post on the back.
3. Install the bypass valve or plumbing adaptors.
- Single bypass valve - lubricate the o-rings and ensure they're in place and connect it onto the inlet and outlet ports on the head. Then make sure to tighten the collars so it doesn't leak.
- 3-valve bypass - lubricate the o-rings and ensure they're in place. Connect the plumbing adaptors onto the inlet and outlet ports on the head. Then make sure to tighten the collars to prevent leaking.
4. Cold water pipe grounding: If your house has a metal cold water pipe, it's often used as a ground for the electrical system.
- The 3-valve bypass type of installation will maintain ground continuity.
- If you use a plastic bypass valve at the unit, continuity is broken. To restore, you'll need to install a #4 copper wire across the section of main water pipe. Then securely clamp it down on both ends.
5. At this step, you'll complete the plumbing to and from the system. Go ahead and connect the inlet and outlet plumbing. The incoming water should be through the Upflow Inlet port.
6. Flush pipes and test for leaks. For this step, you'll want to be sure to follow each one as listed to avoid water or air pressure damage to the inner parts of the system.
- Fully open two water faucets that use the treated water. One hot and one cold, both nearby the system.
- Put the bypass valve into the bypass position. With the single valve, you can do this by turning both handles perpendicular to the water flow. With a 3-valve bypass, close the inlet and outlet valves and then open the bypass valve.
- Fully open the house main water pipe shut off valve. Here you should see a steady flow of water from both the faucets you've opened up.
- Once you see that steady flow, you can go ahead and close both those faucets.
- Now, check the plumbing you set up for any leaks. Fix any that you find right away.
- Open up the Owner's Manual and review the installation instructions to ensure you've read through and completed all steps.
- You're good turn the gas or electric supply to the water heater back on. Don't forget, if applicable to light the pilot.
7. Start up procedure:
- Go ahead and put the bypass valve into the service position. Single bypass is shown below. If you have a 3 valve bypass - fully close the bypass valve and then open the outlet valve. Slowly open the inlet valve while pausing a few times to allow the system to pressurize slowly.
- Check for any leaks.
- Go to a cold water faucet downstream of the system and open it up. You're going to let 50 gallons (190 liters) of water to pass through the system. It takes at least 20 minutes. Then close the faucet.
- Alright, you're ready to put the top cover back on. And you're done! You've installed your new anti-scale system!
