When does that happen? That depends on how hard your incoming water is and your household's water usage. So unfortunately, it's not possible to give a time frame for when to expect it. But there are some things you'll notice.
How will I know when it needs replacing? After a time, you'll start to notice hard water effects around your home again (on pipes, steam irons, water heaters, etc.).
